Why Iowa

Home to more than 30,000 students and some of the nation's top scholars and researchers, the University of Iowa ranks among the top 30 public universities in the country, according to U.S. News & World Report.

Lots of options

One advantage of attending a university with as many course offerings as Iowa is that you can find lots of variety, flexibility, and special challenges in the curriculum.

Internship opportunities

Iowa advisors can connect you with prestigious internships in every field and help you find cooperative education opportunities to apply what you've learned in class to a supervised work situation.

Job placement assistance

Iowa's Pomerantz Career Center has many programs to help students plan for life after graduation, and the Iowa Career Exploration Network connects students with working professionals for networking and employment advice. Our placement offices also offer résumé-writing assistance, online job-search technology, and on-campus recruiting visits.

A classic college campus

Social events, sports, and scenery—they are all here, and they are close to or on our campus. Iowa students can choose from nearly 500 student groups, dozens of intramural and club sports, and a wide variety of performance venues for extracurricular entertainment.

Student Life at Iowa

A diverse enrollment

Iowa students come from all 99 Iowa counties, all 50 states, and 110 foreign countries and territories. About one in 10 students belongs to a racial or ethnic minority group, and many campus groups help build a sense of community for first-generation college students and members of traditionally underrepresented groups.

Resources for Diverse Populations

A great education at a great price

Iowa's tuition and fees are among the lowest in the Big Ten, allowing our students to attend a premier institution at an affordable price. There is no additional cost to participate in the 2 Plus 2 Plan. You'll pay community college tuition the first two years, and Iowa tuition after transferring.
