Recreation & Sport Business Track in the UI Leisure Studies Program Through Iowa Western Community College

The recreation and sport business track of the leisure studies BS degree program at The University of Iowa is designed for students preparing for positions with sport and club teams, intercollegiate and high school athletics programs, international sport organizations, national and international amateur sport organizations, firms specializing in sport marketing, sport sponsorship, and commercial fitness businesses.

This track also provides a foundation for graduate study in sport or recreation management, and other related graduate degree programs. This track offers a comprehensive curriculum with a unique integrative business approach. Our goal is to prepare leaders to meet the challenges in the global sport arena. The faculty is committed to creating a collaborative and nurturing learning environment for analyzing and resolving the challenges in the business and culture of sports nationally and internationally.

Review the responsibilities required to become and remain eligible for the 2 Plus 2 Guaranteed Graduation Plan.

Student Responsibilities

Iowa Western Community College checkpoints

  • Complete the fourth level of a single world language as needed for Iowa's General Education Program.
  • Complete the following courses:
    • PSY 111 Introduction to Psychology
    • SOC 110 Introduction to Sociology
    • MAT 157 Statistics
  • Complete all requirements for the AA degree.
  • When transferring to Iowa, present a cumulative transfer grade-point average (GPA) of at least 2.00 from all colleges attended.

University of Iowa checkpoints

  • Complete the UI courses required for this track of the Leisure Studies BS degree program, as specified in the UI General Catalog.
  • Complete at least half of the remaining semester hours needed for your major and degree during each of your two years at Iowa. (A total of 45-55 semester hours is required for the Recreation & Sport Business track of the Leisure Studies major and 120 semester hours for the BS degree.)
