What is the 2 Plus 2 Guaranteed Graduation Plan?

The 2 Plus 2 Plan allows students to spend two years at a community college, transfer easily into Iowa, and earn a bachelor's degree in two more years. Students simply sign an agreement saying they plan to take certain classes and meet certain requirements before transferring to Iowa.

A number of majors are available through the 2 Plus 2 Plan, though the majors and requirements vary by community college.

What if I'm unsure of my major?

Narrowing your interests to a single major or selecting the major that is right for you can be challenging. The University of Iowa offers more than 100 Areas of Study, including majors, minors, and certificate programs. There are many on-campus resources available to help you choose a major.

When should I sign up?

You should apply to the University of Iowa and the 2 Plus 2 Plan before you've completed 30 semester hours at the community college.

What happens after I apply?

You'll need to accept responsibility for monitoring your own progress, consulting each semester with an adviser or counselor. Counselors and advisers will help you choose appropriate courses to put you on track to graduate in four years.

What if I'm attending a community college part-time?

Part-time students can still sign up for the 2 Plus 2 Plan. Though earning a bachelor's degree will take more than four years, you'll get the guidance you need to complete a degree in a reasonable amount of time.

What if I change majors?

Students considering changing majors will want to work closely with advisers in order to meet the requirements for each major.

Is there a cost to participate?

The only cost to participate in the plan is the application fee for admission. Students pay community college tuition for the first two years, and then University of Iowa tuition after transferring.

Are there 2 Plus 2 scholarships?

Yes. 2 Plus 2 students with the highest transfer grade-point averages will be automatically considered for the 2 Plus 2 Transfer Scholarship.

Is this the only way to transfer to Iowa?

No. The 2 Plus 2 Plan is one of many ways to Transfer to Iowa.
